When Tricia and I spoke after she won the 2011 JWP giveaway she asked if we could wait to book our session together until her husband, Royal came home from his deployment. That, my friends, was the biggest no brainer of the century, and so our July date was set to meet each other in their home in Colorado and photograph the pair of them and their two sweet, sweet boys.
There is something very special about being able to go into a client’s home to get a glimpse into and photograph their everyday life … to see the way they play together, the way they laugh together, and the way they live together. I am certain that these two little boys could not be more loved and cared for by their parents. It was an honor to be in Colorado to photograph them.
The ice cream (which of course I sampled after we finished at our location!) and incredible mountain landscape were a pretty nice added bonus as well.
Thank you Lancasters for a very memorable trip out west. Your sweet, sweet family definitely made your way into my heart. <3

This post takes us to Saugerties, New York to a very incredible family and a very unique home and a very special photography assignment. It’s not often your best friend calls you to meet her in upstate New York to photograph her boyfriend’s mom’s 60th birthday party, especially when you and your six month old son are invited. So off Quin and I flew to Albany and drove the hour south to the little town outside of Woodstock.
I walked in to Helene’s home with my son and was immediately welcomed with hugs, kisses, my best friend Kaylynn, her boyfriend Brook, and his infamous cottage cheese pancakes which were of course made from scratch. Magic. I had never met Brook’s family, but I immediately felt like family and I knew it was going to be an amazing weekend together. So Kaylynn whisked Quin away and I left with my camera to document Helene, her beautiful home, her amazing gardens, and her 60th birthday party. I hope you enjoy these photographs as much as I enjoyed taking them.

When I think about this session with the Blanks family I think of a truly perfect morning. Dewy grass, clear skies, cool air, an early sunrise. A rocking horse crafted with love and care by daddy years ago, not knowing his sweet daughter would one day enjoy it … a vintage high chair that mommy sat in to celebrate her own one year birthday.
Add a huge amount of love from this sweet little family and you’ve got a photographer’s dream. Blanks, it was an honor to photograph you and your sweet daughter. Enjoy. -J

An early, clear sunrise. A long, empty beach. Cool, spring air. And the Bensons. :) Talk about a perfect recipe for a family session. I loved watching the interaction with their sweet little girl, who is just a few months older than my son. It was such an incredible glimpse into what my future holds. No doubt we’re in for a treat. Thank you, thank you Bensons for making the early trek to the beach for our session. I had such an amazing time. -J
